PNC Bank robbery suspect

The FBI and local police are searching for the man who robbed the PNC Bank in Bentleyville shortly after two area high schools received bomb threats.

Investigators released four photos of the man holding a handgun and running out of the bank on Wilson Road with what appears to be a bag of cash.

The FBI described the man as being in his 20s or 30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a beard or mustache and wearing a baseball cap, dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Investigators said he left the bank driving a dark colored sedan, possibly a Dodge, with an undisclosed amount of money.

The bank robbery happened about 10 a.m. Wednesday shortly after Bentworth and California Area high schools each received bomb threats within minutes apart. The students in both schools were sent home early while police investigated and swept the buildings looking for explosives.

The FBI and police are now investigating whether the three incidents are related.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the FBI’s field office in Pittsburgh at 412-432-4000. People can also call the Southwest Regional Police Department at 724-929-8484 or state police in Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.

The bank was closed after the robbery and is not expected to reopen until Thursday while investigators process the scene.
