Fayette Co. commissioners vote to cease ferry operation

Fayette County commissioners voted unanimously this morning to cease operations of the historic Fredericktown ferry Sept. 3 because its costs exceed revenues. The county will leave open a nearly $1 million grant to rehab the ferry in case some other entity wants to take it over, at the recommendation of Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink. Fayette and Washington counties have jointly operated the ferry, which takes cars and passengers across the Monongahela River between Fredericktown and LaBelle.
