Pittsburgh stems population loss – barely
HARRISBURG (AP) – Pittsburgh has finally stemmed its long-running population slide – but it was close.
Pennlive.com says the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the city has added more than 500 residents since 2010.
That represents barely any increase – 0.2 percent. But for a city shown in the 2010 census to have lost nearly 30,000 residents over the previous decade, an 8.6 percent decline, any increase is good news.
The city’s population rose to 306,211 last year, bolstering other signs of the city’s increasing appeal.
Forbes picked Pittsburgh as America’s most livable city in 2010, and the Steel City also topped America’s best cities in a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
In addition, AARP chose the city as one of the 20 best places to retire.
