Two employees receive awards from PennDOT

Two state Department of Transportation employees from PennDOT District 12 were among the 30 recognized by PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch this week for their outstanding performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT’s highest recognition.

The two local recipients are Joseph Rimel and David Jones. The awards are presented annually to employees who represent the department’s values of service, performance and integrity.

Jones is a diesel mechanic for Greene County. He has been an integral part of Greene County’s fleet equipment maintenance team for the last six years and has repaired maintained, rebuilt and constructed equipment for the department at an exceptional level.

Rimel is a survey technician for the district office. He ensures work zone traffic controls are properly set-up. His conscientious approach to safety has resulted in zero work zone accidents or fatalities during his 46-year career.

“I am honored to present the Star of Excellence Award to our employees who embody the drive and dedication that are so vital to keeping PennDOT moving,” Schoch said. “While they work in every area of the department, they have the common goal of achieving excellence and are an example for the rest of us.”

District 12 covers Fayette, Washington, Greene and Westmoreland counties.
