W. Greene graduation scheduled May 31
ROGERSVILLE – West Greene High School will hold commencement exercises for 61 seniors May 31 in the high school.
Speaker for the event will be Dr. Douglas G. Lee, president-elect at Waynesburg University.
Valedictorian will be Anna Marie Salai and the salutatorian will be Emily Marie Young.
Salai, daughter of Michael and Carol Salai, Wind Ridge, plans to attend Drexel University to study graphic design.
She was drum major of the marching band, a member of the concert band, jazz band and pep band. She was president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the drama club, chemistry club, yearbook staff, newspaper staff and senior standing committee.
She received the Army National Reserve Scholar/Athlete Award Marine Scholastic Excellence Award, Presidential Award for Education Excellence and the American Legion Post 416 Scholarship.
Young, daughter of Christopher and Carol Young, Holbrook, plans to attend Robert Morris University to study nursing and to eventually become an anesthetist.
She was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish club, art club, SADD, senior planning committee, quiz bowl, engineering club, robotics team and captain of the volleyball and track teams.
She received the American Citizens Award, Pennsylvania Leaders of Tomorrow Award, Presidential Award for Education Excellence, Thelma S. Hoge Scholarship, Service Above Self Scholarship from the Rotary Club of Waynesburg and was the recipient of “Daughters of American Revolution” Award.
