Waynesburg Central plans Friday graduation

WAYNESBURG – Five summa cum laude graduates will be recognized at Waynesburg Central High School’s commencement at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium. Diplomas will be handed out this year to 139 seniors.

Speaker for the event will be Matthew Blair, acting superintendent.

The following students were named summa cum laude graduates:

• Aaron A. Haywood, son of Craig and Dawn Haywood of Waynesburg, plans to attend West Virginia University to major in petroleum and natural gas engineering with the hope of working in the oil and gas industry in Texas.

He was a two-year letterman and a four-year member of the golf team, serving as captain his senior year. Some of his accomplishments include being awarded academic success in grades nine through 12 and excellence in calculus. He also was selected as the Lions Club boy of the month.

• Cameron R. Jacobs, son of James and Tracy Jacobs of Waynesburg, plans to attend Penn State University’s main campus to major in petroleum and natural gas engineering.

He participated in basketball, soccer and track and was captain of the basketball and soccer teams his senior year. He was treasurer of his class, a member of the National Honor Society, SADD and student council. Some of his awards include the Tri-County Athletic Directors Association Scholar/Athlete Award and the Lions Club September boy of the month.

• Danielle L. Jacobs, daughter of James and Tracy Jacobs of Waynesburg, plans to attend Penn State University’s main campus to major in business and pre-law.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Principal’s Council, secretary of the senior class and was captain of the basketball and cross-country teams.

Some of her awards include Tri-County Athletic Directors Association Scholar/Athlete Award, Centennial Chevrolet Scholar/Athlete Award and the Lions Club girl of the month award.

• Lacey B. Peterson, daughter of Philip and Mary Peterson of Waynesburg, plans to attend Fairmont State University to major in business with a concentration in management. She will also be a member of the university’s acrobatics and tumbling team.

She was class president, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the competitive cheerleading team for four years. Some of her accomplishments include the Anna Gordon Meighen World History Award, the Challenge Program’s community service award and the Lions Club girl of the month award.

• Abigail R. Walters, daughter of Greg and Dana Walters of Waynesburg, plan to attend Allegheny College as a Trustee Scholar to major in biochemistry with minors in psychology and dance and movement studies. She then plans to attend Duquesne University for the pharmacy school for graduate studies.

She was a member of the volleyball team, National Honor Society, student council, Alpha, art club and was co-editor of the yearbook.
