Lions club honors Carmichaels athletes

ROGERSVILLE – Jessica Black and Cody Jacobs were honored by West Greene Area Lions Club as female and male athletes of the year at West Greene High School.
Black was a four-year letter winner in track and field, three-year letter winner in volleyball and one year in cross-country.
She was team captain for track and set the school record in the 200-meter dash this year. She was chosen as a Centennial Chevrolet Scholar Athlete, attended WPIAL Sportsmanship Summit for all sports, was nominated for WPIAL Athletic Scholarship and the Tri-Cada Athletic Scholarship. She placed numerous times in 400, 1600 and 3200 relays.
She also served as at head grapplerette for the wrestling team and was their statistician. She will continue her education at Waynesburg University.
Jacobs was a four-year letter winner in wrestling and football and a three-year winner in baseball. He received the Fletcher/Bissett Memorial award.
Jacobs was named twice to the all-district team, Harold Standard Athlete of the Week, and is a member of the 100 win club. This year, he was a wrestling section champion, WPIAL runner-up and placed sixth at the state tournament.
He will be continue wrestling in the fall at Waynesburg University.
