National Road yard sale offers back road bargains
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) – Organizers of a six-state yard sale hope to lure motorists off the interstates and on to the historic National Road.
The annual event begins Wednesday and continues through Sunday along U.S. 40 and segments of other state highways from Baltimore to St. Louis. The route follows the path of the nation’s first federally funded highway.
The yard sale was begun 10 years ago by Dublin, Ind., antiques dealer Patricia McDaniel.
The Evansville, Ind., Courier-Press reports that this year’s event includes a scavenger hunt along a 220-mile stretch between Greenfield, Ind., and Norwich, Ohio.
