Truck’s fuel tank rupture causes delays on I-70

1 min read

A tractor-trailer traveling west on Interstate 70 struck debris in the roadway Thursday afternoon, causing its fuel tanks to rupture, a Washington County emergency dispatch supervisor said.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. near the Dunningsville exit in Somerset Township, causing fuel to spill on the roadway.

The county’s hazardous materials team was called to the scene to assist in the cleanup, the dispatcher said. The interstate was not closed, although the incident caused significant delays for westbound motorists.
