One dead in Pittsburgh-area fire
AMBRIDGE (AP) – A blaze at a Pittsburgh-area apartment building has killed a woman and injured five others.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports quick-thinking Ambridge residents with ladders and mattresses rescued several other people from the building Sunday night.
Ambridge police Chief James Mann says a woman in her 50s or 60s was found in a stairwell between the second and third floors. Her name wasn’t immediately released.
Tenants jumped onto mattresses or climbed down ladders set up by neighbors. Ambridge police Chief James Mann says officers also rushed into the smoky building to reach tenants before firefighters arrived to take over.
The fire displaced 11 families.
