Police arrest husband in domestic dispute

2 min read

A Cecil Township man was arrested Sunday by township police after they were called to his house by his former wife, who told them she was concerned after learning he allegedly hit his current wife with their children in the vehicle.

Gregory Allan Tournay, 44, of 2080 Nine-Eighty Road, was accused of striking Laurie Tournay while they were driving in their vehicle on Interstate 79 near Carnegie.

His former wife, DeEtta Tournay, called police after one of their children called her about the alleged incident. She asked that police meet her when she went to his house to pick up her children, who were with their father on a scheduled visit.

When police arrived, they said the three children in the vehicle were visibly upset. Tournay, who police said had bloodshot and glassy eyes, was asked if the children were allowed to leave the vehicle. Police said he was difficult to understand.

Tournay got out of the vehicle, went into a garage and closed the door. As police approached the house, they said one of the children came running outside and yelled that he had a gun.

Police sought cover and called for backup from neighboring departments. Laurie Tournay later came out of the house and told police that she was able to get the gun away from her husband.

Gregory Tournay was ordered out of the house. He became uncooperative and refused to comply with orders before he was taken into custody, police said.

Tournay was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
