Pizza delivery driver foils robbery attempt
Three men tried to rob a pizza delivery driver in Donora late Tuesday night, borough police said, but they made off with only a side order of chicken wings.
Donora police said three men in hooded sweatshirts stopped the pizza deliveryman shortly before 10 p.m. while he was in the 400 block of Short Street.
Police said Dorian Ellis, 18, of Monessen, and Tyler Hall, 18, of Donora, rummaged through the deliveryman’s pockets and vehicle looking for money before the deliveryman pulled out a gun.
Police said that prompted Ellis, Hall and the other man to run away with only the chicken wings that the driver planned to deliver to a customer. The suspects were carrying a pellet gun, police said, and threw it as they ran away.
Police said they later found Ellis, Hall and the other man at Sixth Street and Thompson Avenue. Ellis and Hall were taken into custody, but the third man ran from the scene. Police said he has been identified.
The deliveryman later identified Ellis and Hall as two of the men who robbed him, according to court records. Both are charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy, terroristic threats, theft and loitering.
District Magistrate Curtis Thompson arraigned both teens and they were taken to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. The chicken wings were later found near where the three men were stopped by police.
Police did not identify the pizza shop the deliveryman was working for at the time of the attempted robbery.
