Defense rests in armored car shooting case
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The case of a former Pittsburgh armored car guard charged in a fatal $2.3 million heist will soon be in the hands of a judge.
Lawyers for 24-year-old Kenneth Konias Jr. called one witness Monday before resting their case.
Prosecutors said Konias shot his partner, stole the cash and fled to Florida in February 2012.
On Monday, Rodney Shockey, a former manager with the armored car company, read two reports documenting problems with the truck’s scanner in the weeks before the slaying.
Konias has said he shot partner Michael Haines during a fight that started after Haines threw the broken scanner at Konias.
However, earlier prosecution witnesses testified there were no signs of a struggle.
Konias opted for a bench trial. Closing arguments are set to begin today.
