No real estate tax increase expected in Canton Township

1 min read

Canton Township supervisors Thursday unanimously introduced a tentative township budget of $1.4 million, a spending plan that does not include a local real estate tax increase.

The budget includes a $1 million surplus in tax revenues, money that will be spent after supervisors announce projects in January for 2014, a township spokeswoman said.

Real estate taxes are expected to draw $193,000 in revenue next year, township records show.

The tax rate is expected to remain at 5.5 mills, with 1 mill appropriated to the local fire department.

The road department is earmarked to receive $520,000, the largest expenditure in the proposed spending plan.

Supervisors are expected to adopt the budget when they meet again at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
