Date: Monday, Nov. 18
The board unanimously:
• Approved the change in status from temporary professional employee to professional employee for Kelly Barefoot, Kristin DeGiovanni and Gina Duffy, all of whom work at the high school. They completed three years of employment with a satisfactory rating.
• Approved four student teachers to observe classes during the second semester.
• Approved the retirement of bus driver Everett Gorden, effective Nov. 4, and the resignation Jodi Fitzgerald, cafeteria and playground monitor at the middle school, effective Jan. 1.
• Approved extra-duty athletic personnel, including Todd Clark as the swimming head coach, Charlotte Wright as the assistant diving coach and Elizabeth Swartzwelder as the assistant softball coach.
• Approved a request by the wrestling team to participate in the Virginia Duals from Jan. 9 to 12 in Hampton, Va. There will be no cost to the district.
It was the last meeting for board members Lori Cuervo and David Hvizdos, who did not win re-election. Cindy Golembiewski, who also failed to win another term, did not attend the meeting.
Newly elected members will be sworn in at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3. Normally, the reorganizational meeting is held the first Monday in December. However, there is no school Dec. 2, so the meeting was moved to Dec. 3. The reorganizational meeting is usually the only board meeting in December.
