Animal cruelty charges filed

2 min read

A West Pike Run Township man faces 37 counts of animal cruelty after allegedly failing to care for a menagerie of fowl and animals at his home.

The charges against Shawn G. Micjan, 43, of 238 Deems Park Road, Daisytown, were filed last week at the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson by humane Officer Logan Wade.

Micjan is accused of failing to provide food, water and veterinary care to nine chickens and two dogs. He is also charged with failing to provide adequate living conditions and necessary veterinary care for four dogs reportedly kept inside a building with no light.

Washington Area Humane Society officials said someone who was concerned about the conditions on the farm notified them about the situation.

The humane officer also alleges that Micjan provided an unsafe living environment for two goats and three pot belly pigs. Micjan reportedly failed to provide sanitary conditions and allowed an unsafe living environment for four geese. He also allegedly failed to provide adequate food, water, shelter and veterinary care for a boar.

Mijan is accused of failing to provide shelter and water for a horse and pony; shelter and veterinary care to three guinea pigs; shelter to two rabbits and failure to provide grooming for four sheep.

The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson. Should Micjan choose to enter a not guilty plea on the charges, a hearing will be scheduled before Thompson.

All of the animals were removed from the farm and are now in the care of humane society officials.
