Bentleyville man facing new charges
BENTLEYVILLE – A Bentleyville man awaiting trial in Washington County Court on charges he stole copper wire from nearly every utility pole in his hometown faces new accusations he’s been stealing items from parked vehicles in the borough.
Cory Wayne Thomas George, 24, of 138 Pittsburgh Road, was identified as a suspect in the new case by a residential home video surveillance camera that, police claim, captured images of him entering one of the vehicles Thursday in the 100 block of Saulters Avenue, court records show.
Southwest Regional police charged George Thursday with theft and theft from 13 motor vehicles. The items that turned up missing from the vehicles included global-positioning systems and cash, police stated in the affidavit.
George is in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond set by District Judge Curtis Thompson.
He faces trial on charges of theft, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property on accusations he stole $1,160 worth of ground wire owned by FirstEnergy. In that case, he was arrested in July after police observed some of the wire under the rear deck at his residence. He also has a drug case pending in Washington County Court.
