New bridges and smoother roads lined up across Pa.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The first projects that’ll be funded by a major transportation bill could touch nearly every corner of Pennsylvania.
The bill, which Gov. Tom Corbett will sign next week, is expected to marshal another $2.3 billion a year for transportation in Pennsylvania from higher gas taxes and motorist fees.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation could soon start repairing the Birmingham Bridge in Pittsburgh.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says it’ll overhaul four bridges on its Delaware County commuter line and upgrade its Philadelphia City Hall station.
Also on PennDOT’s list are replacing a Route 422 bridge over the Schuylkill River in Montgomery County. It also plans to widen a section of Route 22 in Allentown, rehab part of Route 219 near Johnstown and expand Interstate 81 in suburban Harrisburg.
