McDonald man arrested on drug, assault charges

2 min read

A McDonald man was arrested Saturday by borough police after officers obtained a search warrant for his home after learning from his wife that he may have drugs in their home.

Michael Fleming Amic, 36, of 218 E. Barr St., was taken into custody when he returned home after police found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Tara Ann Amic went to the police station about noon Saturday to report an Aug. 9 assault. The 32-year-old woman told police she never filed a police report because she was frightened and also did not want to lose her children.

She told police he approached her and asked her “Where are my drugs at?” When she told her husband that she did not know, Amic reportedly forced her against the bathroom wall. He then allegedly placed a handgun against her temple, pulled back the slide and threatened to kill her.

Tara Ann Amic told police she sustained bruises on both arms that August afternoon. She said her husband also was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the alleged assault.

She told police there are large quantities of marijuana in their bedroom. She said her husband is also known to grow the drug.

Police obtained a search warrant from District Judge Jay Weller and served it later Saturday afternoon. Police said in Michael Amic’s bedroom they found two plastic containers containing a large amount of suspected marijuana, scales and a package with an unknown white powder. Three more bags of suspected marijuana along with paraphernalia were found in a fake clock in the laundry/bathroom.

When Michael Amic was taken into custody, police found a suspected Vicodin in his pants pocket. Grow lights were found in the trunk of his car along with nine bottles of fertilizer, tube of cloning gel and a tube of plant food. He told police that he smokes marijuana daily.

Michael Amic was arraigned before Weller on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, possession and possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of Vicodin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from Washington County jail Saturday night after posting $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 4 before District Judge Valarie Costanzo.
