Teen dies in Philadelphia rescue attempt

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police say a teenager was killed in a car crash in northeast Philadelphia while trying to save the lives of other passengers and his stepfather who had lost control of their SUV.

Authorities say the stepfather lost control of the vehicle when he had some kind of medical problem about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. His 17-year-old stepson tried to take the wheel but the sport utility vehicle slammed into an empty paratransit bus parked nearby. The impact of the crash sent the bus into an aircraft hangar at the Northeast Philadelphia Airport.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. His stepfather and at least two 15-year-old passengers were taken to hospitals, where they were listed in stable condition.

Police did not immediately release their names.
