Trinity to look into expanded parking

1 min read

Trinity Area School Board is looking into providing additional parking for high school students, at the request of parents and students.

One of the options includes reopening a former parking area called “The Pit.”

School board President Jennifer Morgan said approximately 30 students, who meet the requirements for a parking permit, are on a waiting list for a parking spot.

There are 162 parking spaces available at the high school, and 143 seniors and 15 juniors have parking permits. Four parking spaces are currently occupied by a band trailer.

Superintendent Paul Kasunich said the Pit likely would not be opened year-round, and the district would have to address issues – among them, lighting, gravel and cameras – before opening up that lot.

Director Sandy Clutter said between 20 and 30 spaces typically reserved for visitors are often unused each day, and those could be used to alleviate the parking situation, an option the board will consider.

The permits are available for students on work release and those who participate in after-school activities. Students pay a fee for a parking permit.
