Homeless pair to face burglary charges

2 min read

State police filed charges this week against two homeless people who allegedly burglarized a Jefferson Township residence to trade the stolen items for drugs.

According to police, Kristin Maria Leigh Mull, 24, and Phillip Henry Stanger, 27, both formerly of Clarksville, broke into 114 Long Street, Apt. 1, Rices Landing at 6 p.m. Sept. 6.

The victim, Natasha Celli, told police she left her apartment around 5:30 p.m. and when she returned at 8 p.m. she noticed her rear door had been broken. Celli and her husband, Jeremy Andrew Shiel, told police a camcorder, cell phone, GPS unit, a Wii game system and a collection of Detroit Red Wings pins were stolen. Shiel told police he saw Stanger near their apartment about 20 minutes before he and Celli left.

Mull was interviewed by police Sept. 7. According to a criminal complaint filed against her in the office of Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lou Dayich, Mull said she and Stanger were visiting Louis Todd Balazick in another apartment Sept. 6.

Mull said Stanger left the apartment for a few minutes and she stepped outside to see where he was. Police said Mull told them she witnessed Stanger exiting the rear door of Celli’s apartment with what she termed as “stolen items.” Mull then said she went with Stanger to a residence at 145 Rices Landing Road, where the items were later found, in an attempt to exchange them for drugs, according to police.

Mull is in the Greene County jail on a $50,000 cash bond for conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 1:15 p.m. before Dayich.

A warrant has been issued for Stanger. He faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief when apprehended.
