Philly police detain dad in tot’s starvation death

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police have taken into custody the father of a severely disabled 3-year-old girl whose starvation death is being investigated as a homicide.

Homicide Capt. James Clark says Nathalyz Rivera weighed just 11 pounds when she died Monday.

Police say 30-year-old Carlos Rivera has been located in Philadelphia after fleeing earlier in the day.

Police say he found his daughter unresponsive inside their bug-infested home at about midnight, but called her mother instead of 911.

Clark says the girl’s mother was being questioned and he expects her to be charged.

Authorities say the girl was driven to a hospital and pronounced dead at about 2 a.m. A medical examiner termed her death a homicide caused primarily by starvation.
