Cal U football player waives lesser charges to court

1 min read

The California University of Pennsylvania football player accused in an assault last month outside a fast-food restaurant in California Borough waived his case to court Monday after the more serious charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn by the prosecution Monday.

Claudy Mathieu, 20, of Philadelphia, waived charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct for allegedly punching Mashkhal Ibriham outside the Subway, 352 Third St., on Aug. 31.

Mathieu’s bond was amended from $30,000 to an unsecured bond and he was released from Washington County Jail.

Mathieu, who had been listed as a redshirt freshman defensive lineman, was suspended from the team after his arrest. Christine Kindl, spokeswoman for the university, said the student conduct process can now begin since Mathieu has been released from jail.
