Man charged in local burglary

2 min read

A North Strabane Township man, already awaiting trial for allegedly burglarizing a South Strabane Township beer distributor, was arraigned Monday on more charges after his fingerprint tied him to a Canonsburg burglary.

Jason J. Chadwick, 39, of 2555 Washington Road, was arraigned via video before District Judge David Mark on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and theft for allegedly burglarizing John’s Automotive, 311 Euclid Ave.

Hannah Wudkwych called police June 28 after coming to work and discovering the break-in. She found a small hole in the garage door. Police said that $35, a set of car keys and over-the-counter medication were stolen from the business. A shoe print was found on a piece of the broken garage door along with a fingerprint.

Police Sgt. Al Coghill knew that Chadwick had been living in the area with his brother at the time so when he sent the print to the state police forensics laboratory, he asked them to check for a match with Chadwick. The print matched his right thumbprint. South Strabane police charged Chadwick with burglarizing The Beer Store, 746 Locust Ave., in late July. He is accused of stealing 11 cartons of cigarettes and a 30-pack of beer.

Mark set an additional $25,000 bond on Chadwick who is in Washington County jail on the South Strabane charges as well as drug-related charges filed by Canonsburg police.
