Second suspect charged after burglar fatally shot
MUNHALL, Pa. (AP) — Police have charged a man with burglarizing a detached garage while a Pittsburgh-area homeowner fatally shot another man who was serving as the suspect’s lookout.
Twenty-four-year-old Shawn Conroy was awaiting arraignment on burglary-related charges in the incident that began about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in Munhall.
That’s where Munhall police and Allegheny County detectives say a 58-year-old legally armed homeowner fatally shot 23-year-old Andrew Stevens, also of Munhall. Police say the homeowner shot Stevens after he opened fire on the homeowner, who had encountered Stevens while he was acting as Conroy’s lookout in an alley outside the garage.
Police aren’t releasing the homeowner’s name, but say the district attorney will investigate to determine whether he was justified in shooting Stevens, who was found dead at the scene. The homeowner wasn’t wounded.
