Realignment plans to be displayed
The state Department of Transportation will hold an open house to display plans for the realignment of Baileys Crossroads on Route 21 in Cumberland Township.
The meeting will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Fire Hall.
PennDOT plans to change the intersection of Route 21 and West George Street, Route 1021, at Bailey’s Crossroads to allow uninterrupted traffic on Route 21.
Currently, traffic heading west on Route 21 must stop at a T-intersection at West George Street while traffic heading east can continue unimpeded. Once the realignment is complete, Route 21 traffic in both directs will have the right of way.
Work that will be completed as part of the project reconstructing about 1,000 feet of roadway to accommodate the realignment. About 425 feet of George Street will be included in the reconstruction.
Glade Run Road will also be relocated at the intersection of Route 21 and George Street to form a signalized intersection. Turning lanes also will be added on Route 21 for left turnings onto George Street and Glade Run Road.
The project will also include a new traffic signal, signing and pavement markings, drainage, and American with Disabilities Act curb ramps.
Bids for the project are expected to be open in May.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project. Representatives from PennDOT will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the project. Anyone with knowledge of historic resources in the project area should attend this meeting.
The fire hall is ADA accessible and any person requiring special assistance is asked to contact PennDOT prior to the meeting. Those who require additional information concerning this meeting can contact James Sisul, PennDOT Project Manager at 724-439-7379 or email jsisul@pa.gov prior to the meeting.
