Local student wins state poster contest

The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts and Greene County Conservation District announced that Janvi Patel of Waynesburg was one of the five state level winners of the National Association of Conservation District’s 2013 “Where Does Your Water Shed?” poster contest.
“It is important to understand where water goes after it rains, after you empty the bathtub or water your garden,” said Robert Maiden, PACD executive director. “Contests such as these allow our students to learn more about our water resources and how we need to take care of our fresh water since it gets used over and over again.”
To promote this understanding of where water goes, students from kindergarten through 12th grade entered posters conveying their thoughts and ideas through original artwork. Submissions were judged based on the entry’s conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality and universal appeal.
Patel, a student at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, was the winner in the seventh-to-ninth-grade category.
“PACD thanks all of the participants in the contest for their interest and dedication to conservation,” said Maiden. “Best wishes to Janvi on the upcoming national judging competition.”
