Retired Pittsburgh officer will face trial

1 min read

PITTSBURGH – A retired Pittsburgh police officer is headed to trial on homicide charges for allegedly shooting a longtime friend during a drunken bar fight.

Fifty-one-year-old Officer Kenneth Farnan on Friday waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Police said Farnan shot 56-year-old Shawn Evans Sept. 8.

Police said Farnan and Evans were drunk when the shooting occurred. Farnan accused Evans of hitting him in the head as Farnan was passing out from drinking shots of liquor.

Evans went to the restroom, returned and allegedly pushed Farnan, and they began to fight. Police said Farnan fired six shots, striking Evans multiple times.

Farnan’s arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 29. He’s pleaded not guilty and is free on bond, with electronic monitoring.
