WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Humane Society will host its “Show Me the Money” cash bash Oct. 6 in building No. 9 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The doors will open at noon with the cash bash starting at 2 p.m.

The cost of tickets is $20 each with cash prizes totaling $11,500 awarded throughout the event. Winners need not be present to collect. Food, dessert and beverages are included in the price of the ticket.

Guest tickets for $10 each include food, dessert, beverages and opportunities to purchase strip tickets and chances on gift baskets.

The event is being catered by Myers Catering of Fairchance.

The Humane Society operates on an annual budget of roughly $250,000, without a government funding stream. Monies from public and private donations and fundraising efforts are the sole support of the society’s shelter in Waynesburg.

This makes the success of fundraisers, like the cash bash, all the more important in providing food and veterinary care for the dogs and cats taken in by the shelter.

The needs are many, from cleaning supplies to cat litter.

Ongoing fundraisers like the annual lottery calendar sale is yet another way the public can contribute to the Society.

During the cash bash the calendars and Humane Society sweatshirts and T-shirts will be available for purchase. Each calendar has a three-digit number printed on it that pays out a monetary amount daily from Jan. 20 to Dec. 31, 2013, when that number is the same as the Pennsylvania Daily Lottery Daily Number in the evening.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance from the Humane Society, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, or by calling Brad at 724-833-4973.

Priority items needed by the society are quality canned and dry foods for cats and dogs, feeding bowls for both, pet beds, cat litter and boxes, cat and dog carriers in all sizes and “loving, forever homes for all our cats and dogs.”

Other items in demand are newspapers, rugs, blankets, towels, and sheets for bedding – the animals do not mind if they do not look pretty, but they have to be clean, please; nylon leashes, combs and brushes, liquid laundry soap, dish soap, antibacterial hand soap, paper towels, bleach, large garbage bags, window cleaner, liquid Spic ‘n Span or liquid Mr. Clean, ping pong balls, chew toys, fabric cat toys, plastic rings from milk jugs, rawhides, postage stamps and letter-size envelopes for mailings.
