NEW BLOOMFIELD, Pa. (AP) – A Transportation Department truck driver has agreed to a plea deal and will spend two years on probation for causing an August 2011 crash in central Pennsylvania that killed a woman from Washington state.

Sixty-three-year-old Parke Hoover of Millerstown pleaded guilty as his trial was about to start Monday in Perry County Court to a single misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment.

Police said Hoover made a U-turn in his dump truck and collided with a car driven by 43-year-old Hui Satorius of Seattle. She was killed and her then-5-year-old daughter was injured.

Hoover retired from PennDOT soon afterward.

The victim’s husband, Dale Satorius of Seattle, was in court. He said he hopes Hoover’s guilty plea sends a message to motorists to drive more safely.
