Inmate charged again with attacking officer
WAYNESBURG – An inmate at the State Correctional Facility at Greene, who was previously charged with attacking corrections officers Dec. 25, 2013, and again on Feb. 6, was charged with attacking another officer on March 20.
Brian Kirk Byrnes, 32, of Lancaster County, faces assault by a prisoner, aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment charges.
According to a criminal complaint filed before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates, Byrnes allegedly struck corrections officer Alan K. Moody in the face when he and other officers were preparing to escort Byrnes to a hearing at SCI-Greene on the Feb. 6 charges.
Byrnes is currently serving a sentence of 20-to-40 years for criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy for the stabbing of a college student in Lancaster County May 19, 1998. Byrnes, who was 16 years old at the time of the stabbing, was tried as an adult.
A preliminary hearing will be held today for the February incident followed immediately by a preliminary arraignment in the March case. Byrnes will be formally arraigned for the December incident April 7 before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman.
