West Greene students win contest

ROGERSVILLE – West Greene Middle School students won the Edmentum Spring Academics Sprints Contest featuring Study Island.
From March 17 through March 23, the students participated in Spring Academics Sprints Contest, Middle School Division. The goal was to have students correctly answer as many questions in Study Island subjects as they could throughout the week. The winning school was determined by having the highest average number of questions answered correctly per student participating.
Founded in 2000, Study Island, an Edmentum product, helps students in kindergarten through 12th grade master state-specific, grade-level academic standards in a fun and engaging manner. Study Island provides standards-based instructional, practice, assessment and productivity tools that improve the performance of educators and students via web-based platforms.
The results of the contest were:
• 596 schools participated nationwide;
• More than eight million questions were correctly answered;
• West Greene Middle School students correctly answered 192,916 questions;
• Peyton Blake, an eighth-grade student, placed second in the country by correctly answering 21,210 questions;
• Colton Anderson, a sixth-grade student, placed fourth by correctly answering 16,124 questions;
• Jud Meek, a sixth-grade student, placed eighth by correctly answering 10,273 questions;
• Brianna Amos, a sixth-grade student, placed ninth by correctly answering 10,234 questions.
