Woman arrested on theft charges
A 22-year-old woman wanted by South Strabane Township police on warrants was taken into custody Friday morning when an off-duty township officer saw her walking near the intersection of Jefferson and West Hallam avenues.
April Irwin, formerly of Washington who has no current address, was taken into custody with the assistance of Washington police.
Irwin and Jonathan Amon, 26, are accused of stealing a 55-inch television worth $1,200 and an Xbox game system from a home at 1381 N. Main St. Jan. 27, said township police Detective Michael Schidlmeier. Both are charged with theft and conspiracy.
An arrest warrant was issued for Amon, who is incarcerated in northwestern Pennsylvania. He is expected to enter pleas on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle filed by police in Franklin Township, Venango County, and charges of theft and receiving stolen property filed by police in Erie.
Police also charged Irwin with retail theft for allegedly stealing items valued at $150 from Walmart, Trinity Point, March 6 and 8. She is also charged with theft for reportedly stealing a 36-inch television from a unit at the Northgate Apartments March 16. That television was valued at $100.
Irwin reportedly admitted to Schidlmeier that she has a heroin addiction and sold the items to support her habit.
She also faces theft and receiving stolen property charges filed by state police at the office of District Judge David Mark in connection with a Feb. 27 incident in Canton Township.
Irwin was arraigned on the charges before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $15,000 bond.
