Crash closes South Strabane street

1 min read

A portion of North Main Street in South Strabane Township was closed and power was out in the area for several hours Sunday night after a utility pole was struck by a vehicle driven by a woman who police said was drunk.

Christy Hartner, 30, of 149 Sunset Boulevard, South Strabane, was driving north on North Main near Kelly Drive when her sport utility vehicle went up a small embarkment after she rounded a small bend and hit with the utility pole about 7:45 p.m.

Firefighter Chris Barton said the pole landed on top of the vehicle.

North Main was closed between Donnan and Sherrard avenues until crews from Allegheny Power Co. could reset the pole and the power company and other utilities could relocate their lines.

Power was restored to homes in the area about 10 p.m.

Weavertown Environmental also responded for an oil spill.

Police said Hartner refused treatment.

Her blood-alcohol content was almost 3 1/2 times the 0.08 percent limit presumed for intoxication, police said.

Charges will be filed later.
