Area school to open time capsule this weekend
CARMICHAELS – A time capsule that was embedded in the corner of the Carmichaels Area Senior High School in 1967 will be opened at a ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday at the school. The public is invited to attend.
The capsule, which was placed behind a cornerstone near the underpass between the junior and senior high schools, will be removed and opened in the high school library. Refreshments will be served.
The time capsule was embedded by members of the school board and students representing the 1967 graduating class.
The high school was constructed between 1965 and 1966 and was opened for the 1966-67 school year.
The district is expected to begin work this month on renovations to both the senior and junior high school buildings.
The board awarded contracts last week totaling $13.9 million for the project.
The work is expected to begin Monday with the construction of a new cafeteria and kitchen below the underpass between the two buildings.
This part of the project is not expected to impact the use of the buildings for classes through the end of the school year.
Once classes are finished for the year, work will begin on renovations to the junior high and then move on to the senior high.
The district also will later renovate the elementary school.
