Charleroi man charged with heroin possession
CHARLEROI – A Charleroi man is charged with leading police on a foot chase from a vehicle stop and dropping along the way a bag containing 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin before he was apprehended in North Charleroi.
Charleroi Regional police said Allen M. Basel, 25, was treated at Mon Valley Hospital for injuries he suffered when he leaped over an 18-foot cliff during the chase that began about 11 p.m. Thursday near the Tener Bridge and ended at a residence in the 200 block of Monongahela Avenue, court records state.
Basel was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Kelly Walker, who was cited for driving with a suspended license at the time, police stated in the affidavit.
An officer pulled her over at Route 88 and Lock Street, where Basel, who was wanted for a probation violation, allegedly decided to flee.
He ran east on Lock Street to Route 88 north to Cliff Street, where he was injured. Police charged him with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, drug possession and flight to avoid apprehension.
He is in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
