Pa. trout anglers try their luck on opening day

1 min read

HARRISBURG (AP) – After a long, cold and snowy winter, Pennsylvania anglers are heading to their favorite fishing holes Saturday for the statewide opening of trout season.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has stocked lakes and streams with 3.2 million adult brook, brown and rainbow trout. The state also boasts more than 10,000 miles of wild trout waters.

Opening day in 18 southeastern counties was March 29.

State officials are sounding one note of caution, saying wildfire danger ranges from high to very high across much of the state. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says anglers and others need to be careful with their campfires.
