DA reviews statements in student’s death

ERIE (AP) – A northwestern Pennsylvania prosecutor is reviewing video statements and other material in the shooting death of a college student over the weekend, which officials say appears to have been accidental.

Authorities in Erie County said 23-year-old Abram Sorek, a student at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, was shot in the head with a handgun early Saturday in Erie.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that District Attorney Jack Daneri said he hopes to decide by Thursday whether any charges will be filed.

Police said no dispute preceded the shot. Deputy Coroner Dennis Suscheck said it appears to have been “a horrible and very unfortunate accident.”

Hundreds packed a chapel at the college Monday for a memorial service for the business marketing major, who was slated to graduate in May.
