Toddler found wandering in East Washington
The parents of a 3-year-old boy found wandering in a busy section of East Washington Thursday morning will not face charges, the borough’s police chief said.
East Washington police Chief Mark Griffith said the boy, whom he declined to identify, was standing at North Avenue and East Beau Street about 10:30 a.m. when he was spotted by the chief and a state constable.
The boy was not injured and was returned to his family’s home in the 300 block of North Avenue, Griffith said. He said the boy escaped from the house by getting around a child-safety gate and unlocking a door while his father, who works the midnight shift, was asleep.
“The boy was safe, and no harm was done,” Griffith said. “It could’ve been disastrous, but we were on top of it.”
