Fleeing motorist causes multivehicle crash

2 min read

A 24-year-old McKees Rocks woman was arrested by state police Saturday night after being accused of leading police on a brief pursuit and later crashing her car into several vehicles, causing a traffic jam on Parkway West inbound at Interstate 79.

State police said Keisha Young was remanded to Allegheny County Jail after being charged with retail theft, reckless endangerment and fleeing and eluding police in connection with the 5 p.m. incident that began at a Target store in North Fayette Township.

Police said Young was driving with her 2-year-old son unrestrained in her car.

North Fayette police began pursuing her vehicle after receiving a report she stole more than $100 in merchandise from the store. Because of her vehicle’s speed and traffic conditions at the time, North Fayette police gave up their chase, according to state police.

A short time later, she was taken into custody following the multivehicle accident in the Parkway’s eastbound lanes of traffic near the I-79 interchange, state police said.

A second woman involved in the incident, Whitney Felder, 25, of Carnegie, will be charged with retail theft on allegations she stole more than $140 worth of merchandise from Target. She remained at the store until North Fayette police arrived, state police said Sunday.

State police in Washington said the crash did not cause any traffic backups into Washington County.

It was not immediately known if the crash caused any injuries.
