Pa. woman slated for trial in boyfriend’s death

1 min read

ERIE (AP) – The lawyer for a northwestern Pennsylvania woman charged in the shooting death of her boyfriend last summer says the gun went off accidentally.

The trial began Monday for 29-year-old Kristina Mae Allen in Erie County. She’s charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and related counts.

Authorities say 27-year-old Dean Haggerty was found dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest in the couple’s mobile home in Summit Township in August.

Defense attorney Eric Mikovch said in his opening statement that “the gun went off by accident, plain and simple.”

Prosecutor Roger Bauer told the jury that the conflicting stories Allen gave to police will show she meant to kill Haggerty to stop him from arguing with her over what he claimed was her infidelity.
