California University of Pennsylvania will mark its 178th commencement with separate ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students.

Ceremonies for graduate students will be held at 7 p.m. May 9 in the Cal U. Convocation Center. Master’s degree candidates will be vested in their academic hoods during the ceremony.

Ceremonies for bachelor’s and associate degree candidates will begin at 10 a.m. May 10, also in the Convocation Center.

Interim University President Geraldine M. Jones will confer the degrees. More than 952 undergraduates and 228 graduate students will receive their degrees, although not all will attend the ceremonies.

Attorney Reginald A. Long Sr., Cal U. Class of 1981, will speak at both ceremonies. A specialist in the legal practice areas of commercial real estate, corporate finance, zoning and land use, Long is a partner in the law firm of Love and Long, which has offices in Newark, N.J., and Philadelphia.

He previously was employed by TIAA-CREF, a Fortune 500 pension fund, where he worked in the mortgage and real estate department. In that role he was instrumental in financing and developing shopping malls, hotels, retail entertainment complexes and mixed-use projects, including the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.

Long serves on the board of directors for the Foundation for California University of Pennsylvania and the Union League of Philadelphia, and on the board of trustees for the People for People Charter School Inc. and Family Connections. He also is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

A native of Pittsburgh’s Hill District, Long earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Cal U. He holds a master’s in business administration from the Fordham University Graduate School of Business and a juris doctorate from New York Law School.

Both ceremonies can be viewed live online at www.calu.edu.
