WAYNESBURG – A Denbo man was sentenced in Greene County Court to serve 3 to 6 years in a state correctional facility for an assault on his former girlfriend.

Michael Lee Kelly, 31, of 1151 1st St., pleaded guilty to the aggravated assault of Danielle Iams on July 18 at her residence in Cumberland Township. Iams told police Kelly, who is the father of her child, forced his way into the home when she opened her door and began to punch her in the face. When Iams fell to the floor Kelly began kicking her repeatedly in the head, police said.

Sgt. Jorel Hanley of the Cumberland Township Police, who responded to the residence, said Iams had knots on her head; red marks on her shoulders, chest and arms; and bruising to her eye. She was treated at Southwest Regional Medical Center for a nasal fracture and concussion from the assault.

In addition to aggravated assault, Kelly pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, simple assault, harassment with physical contact and criminal mischief. The latter charge resulted from Kelly puncturing the tire of Iam’s vehicle.

As a condition of sentencing, Kelly is to have no contact with Iams throughout the six-year sentence. He was ordered to pay $1,000 in fines plus court costs and fees.
