WAYNESBURG – The case of a former Washington County man charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct for allegedly roaming the halls and entering patient rooms at the Southwest Regional Medical Center was bound over for court.

Ryan Avery-Vaughn Tyler, 26, of 155 N. Woodland Ave., Apt. 57 B, Waynesburg wandered inside the hospital on several occasions over a span of a couple of months, despite being told he could only be there if seeking medical treatment, according to a criminal complaint.

On Feb. 28, state trooper Duane Spangler was dispatched to the hospital to investigate a report of a suspicious person when hospital staff, concerned with employee and patient safety, contacted the state police for assistance.

According to the complaint, Tyler was confronted after he was discovered by hospital personnel in patient rooms and employee areas. Spangler said Tyler told them he was a speech therapist transferred to Southwest Regional Medical Center from the Washington Hospital.

Spangler initially spoke to Tyler at his residence Feb. 28 to advise him not to return to Southwest Regional Medical Center unless he needed medical attention.

On March 14, Kevin Simms, the director of facilities at Southwest Regional Medical Center, contacted Spangler to alert him Tyler was again discovered roaming the hospital, according to the complaint. When confronted, Tyler left the premises.

Tyler is being held in the Greene County jail on $2,500 straight cash bond. Tyler was on parole at the time of his arrest. A violation hearing is scheduled May 29.

In February, he pleaded guilty to theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. Tyler admitted stealing $180 from a car parked at 405 Route 88, Carmichaels in July. He was sentenced to 13 days to 23 ½ months incarceration.
