Nursing tutors needed

1 min read

Community Action Southwest is partnering with Western Area Career and Technology Center to recruit volunteer tutors for the school’s practical nursing program.

The school needs current or retired registered or licensed practical nurses interested in volunteering to tutor students in nursing fundamentals, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, maternal and child nursing, mental health nursing, anatomy and physiology.

Western Area is offering a 12-month practical nursing program at campuses in Canonsburg and Charleroi. A 24-month practical nursing program also is available at the school’s Canonsburg building. Classes are offered yearround, with the next session scheduled to start in July.

Volunteers can tutor students onsite or at local libraries. Basic training will be provided, and volunteers will be able to tutor students in subjects in which they are most comfortable.

The recruitment drive is part of Community Action Southwest’s new post-secondary Transitions Program, designed to assist more of its clients so they can acquire degrees or certificates that will help them to obtain family-sustaining employment. The program is funded in part by the United Way of Washington County.

Anyone who would like more information or who is interested in volunteering should call 1-877-814-0788, extension 423.
