Mon View Pool to officially reopen Saturday
GREENSBORO – Mon View Pool, which was closed this summer for extensive renovations, will officially reopen to the public Saturday.
The facility now includes a rebuilt 168,262-gallon pool with a 40-foot water slide; a children’s play area with a 4,000-gallon, zero-depth-entry wading pool, sprinklers and benches; and a 12-by-10-foot AquaClimb poolside climbing wall.
The community was invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and sneak preview of the pool Aug. 1. The contractor, Port Vue Plumbing Inc. of McKeesport, will finish minor work at the site this week. The $800,000 renovation project was funded through a combination of state grant money and Act 13 impact fee revenue.
Starting Saturday, the pool will be open daily from 1 to 7 p.m. through Aug. 24. The other two county pools, Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg and Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels, will also be open through Aug. 24. All pools will be closed Aug. 25-29 as students return to school. Only Alpha Aquatic Center will reopen Labor Day weekend, with its last day Sept. 1.
The last event at any of the pools will be the Humane Society of Greene County’s annual “Dog Gone Pool Party,” which will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at Carmichaels Pool.
Admission rates at Mon View Pool are $2 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $4 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships purchased for either of the other two pools will be honored at Mon View.
Regular attendees at this summer’s Mon View Park Day Camp also received free pool passes from the Greene County commissioners for having to endure a summer with no swimming. The pool also has lockers, restrooms, showers, changing facilities and snack machines. Eight picnic pavilions at Mon View Park are also available to rent at various rates.
Alpha Aquatic Center hours are noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission prices are $5 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61.
The aquatic center features a 330,000-gallon competition-sized pool with eight lap lanes, two diving boards and a 12-foot diving pool; a 40-by-40-foot children’s play area including a 148-foot spiral water slide, a 25-foot straight water slide, a 180-foot “lazy river” with tubes for floating, water jets and other play equipment; a bath house with lockers, restrooms, showers and changing facilities; and a concession stand and seating area.
At Carmichaels Pool, hours are 1 to 7 p.m. daily. Admission rates are $3 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Carmichaels Pool features a 300,000-gallon Z-shaped pool, a diving board, an 11-foot diving pool, an 8-foot water slide and a 70-foot spiral water slide, a 15-by-15-foot children’s play area, lockers, restrooms, showers, changing facilities and snack machines.
Training sessions for next year’s lifeguards will start in February.
