WVU student dies in stabbing; man arrested
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – Morgantown police say a Maryland man has been charged in the stabbing death of a 19-year-old West Virginia University student.
Police say in a news release that Devonte Waites was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital after being stabbed in the abdomen Thursday morning. The Dominion Post reports that Waites, a freshman communications student from Fairmont, was stabbed during a fight at a Morgantown bar.
After interviewing several witnesses and viewing video surveillance, police arrested 33-year-old Robert Hernandez of Cumberland, Md., during a traffic stop. Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder.
