A Carroll Township man was placed in Washington County jail Friday morning on $50,000 bond after being charged by Carroll Township police with a number of drug violations.

Daryl W. Demchak, 46, of 142 Wisebecker Lane, was charged with six counts each of possession with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of restrictions on alcohol and driving on a license suspended for a previous driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs violation, according to an affidavit filed in the office of District Judge James Ellis.

Police said a township officer on patrol June 17 on Route 88 near Gearing Road noticed Demchak driving on what the officer knew was a suspended license. Demchak was pulled over on Gearing Road, and the officer reported finding 13 bundles of suspected heroin, two needles, a tobacco can with stamp bags and a cigarette pack used to conceal stamp bags. Police said an open beer can was found in the console cupholder.

Demchak was handcuffed. Police said they found a pocket knife in a holster in his pocket, and that Demchak admitted to having a needle in his left pocket.

Police said he smelled of alcohol and admitted to having two drinks, including one as he was driving.

Following the June 17 stop, Demchak was turned over to Monessen police on an outstanding warrant for an incident in Westmoreland County, police said.

He was arraigned before Ellis at 10 a.m. Friday and taken to Washington County jail.
