2 min read

McDonald police are investigating thefts from unlocked vehicles parked in several different communities over the last week to 10 days.

Robert Michael States, 16 Hindman Ave., Burgettstown, told police Saturday the key was broken off in the ignition of his pickup truck and the rest of the keys that were attached were gone. Also stolen from the truck were a coil of aluminum wire, three drills, a box of drill bits, two nail guns, a circular saw and five smaller tool boxes as well as a global positioning unit.

Security cameras captured a gray, four-door sedan pull into the driveway about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A white man started removing items from States’ truck and also removed items from the passenger compartment.

Four vehicles were entered last week in McDonald, two Monday and two Wednesday.

Kurt McElhaney, 125 Sixth St., told police Monday that a backpack containing his American Airlines/US Airlines badge along with another badge were stolen.

He found some items that were in his backpack on the street near his home. His neighbors, Traci and Jack Yates, 129 Sixth, reported a vehicle entered. A small purse containing several gift cards, credit cards and a debit card was stolen.

On Wednesday, Thomas Gill, 143 Fourth St., reported a wallet with credit cards stolen form his vehicle along with prescription medication. Danielle Garman told police her Apple iPad, $500 gift card, $300 pair of sunglasses and wallet containing credit cards were among the items stolen from her vehicle while parked outside her parents’ home at 400 Sixth St. She told police she witnessed a man and woman that she did not recognize walking up the road about 12:30 a.m.

In Robinson Township on Sunday, Cody Mastic, 507 Fifth St., told police he saw occupants of a gray, four-door sedan enter a neighbor’s vehicle about 2:30 a.m. He left his home and started yelling at the two occupants of the car. They got back into the car and went north on Fifth. The neighbors, Cheryl and Henry Wolfe, told police that a GPS unit, $20 and a soccer bag containing a ball, cleats and socks were stolen.

Police checked vehicles matching the description but could not locate any suspects.
